ESP/ASR Fault
Friday morning I turned on the engine, and after a few seconds a loud and clear BEEEEP was heard. This sound nearly makes me shiver, thinking uh-oh what’s up?!
The message on the display read “ESP/ASR fault”, and the little orange ESP control lamp in the dashboard lights up. The push button to deactivate the ESP function also lights up as if I turned off ESP intentionally. Trying to push that button will activate the BEEEEP sound and the alert message again. I am not able to determine if the ESP is actually disabled, but I better believe it is.
So, it did not take a year before the next malfunction in the car appeared. I will call the repair shop today. I hope this is just another typical Peugeot electronics bug, like a loose plug or something.
The odometer says 22.012 km this far. By the way, I am satisfied with the fuel consumption, my average is 5.0 l/100 km (remember, I spend 85% of the time on the highway cruising speed approx 120 km/h when traffic permits).
UPDATE – just called Peugeot – the message was that this is potentially a safety issue which might cause blocking of the rear brakes. So don’t drive the car! I was adviced to call Peugeot Assistance which is included for the first two years of warranty. They will pick up the car and take it to the repair shop, and I was informed that if the car is not fixed today, I can have a replacement car for a maximum of two days.

Thank you for your 207 diary. Exactly the same esp/asr fault suddenly appeared (with a horrifying beeeep) in my 207 GT here in the cold and snowy Finland. And of course during the worst snow storm of the decade. After reading your comments and advice you were given NOT to drive the car, I decided not to believe a Finnish autodealer who said the car was drivable. Peugeot Assistance refused to help at all because my car was drivable in their opinion too. Today, after a week since the trouble began, I finally got a service time, drove the car to the car dealer and oops: the car is not drivable and must wait a spare part from France a few days.
Thanks to your diary, I knew what to expect – and choose to drive my other GT, 308, which is brand new and felt safer to drive… Well, It has been once towed from my homeyard because of a data problem (horsepowers just vanished). But that is a totally different story. So far I’ve had 13 Peugeots, most of them company cars but then I switched to private leasing cars which are quite popular in Finland.

[...] ESP/ASR fault was the exact same fault which I reported about in an earlier post two years ago, but now the official 2-year warranty period was over, uh oh. But to my satisfaction (and a little [...]

Have you tried driving your car at high revs to clean the deppolution (drive safely, of course). I had the problem but driving in 4th gear for a while on the highway resolved this. Concerning the esp I can only say that my Peugeot shop made the repair even after the 2-year warranty, so I hope you can convince your dealer about this too! Wish you best of luck.
