A few minor problems

Posted in Problems at 17:39 by my207

My 207 has been serving me faithfully ever since my latest post here. Total driven distance is now approx. 28.000 km.

However, a number of minor problems and annoyances have built up :

  • The folding mechanism in the key is broken – it should flip open when pushing a small button, but the thing which should make it flip seems to be a flop. It doesn’t open the key fully, so it must be manually opened. Not a big problem, but annoying. Expects to have it replaced by Peugeot.
  • Last year the alternator drive belt was replaced because it made a squealing noise when cold starting in freezing temperature; this is a problem again. I was told it had to do with the rubber composite used in the drive belt, hmmm… Peugeot must replace it again, I guess.
  • Sometimes, the brakes also make a whining noise – I guess it is the brake pads. Maybe they need a renewal?
  • The fault diagnostics system two times issued a warning that there is a “sidelamp fault”; having carefully examined all lights and lamps I cannot find any fault (other than the fault diagnostics system itself, that is)…

All in all, I think it must be an extra visit at Peugeot, before the next ordinary service.

Next ordinary service is at 50.000 km or 10 October 2008. I don’t think I will drive more than 43.000 km before the 10th of October, so I expect that to be the next service. I will remember to book the service some time before, to make sure the dealer warranty is still valid during the service. I am considering to take the car for a Peugeot-independent test before the service – who knows, if there are any hidden problems which should be dealt with, within the time period of the manufaturers warranty?

I am also seriously considering extra corrosion protection; just read a magazine, which did an inspection of 300 new car makes, and the Peugeot 207 did not do well in the test of the factory corrosion protection. It was highly recommended to buy extra corrosion protection immediately, even in a brand new 207.
